Summary

This two-day course introduces core brainspotting concepts, emphasizing attunement, somatic awareness and the evoking of change. Through discussion, demonstrations and dyad/triad practice, you'll learn to integrate Motivational Interviewing and brainspotting skills to strengthen engagement, develop focus, support mindful processing and enhance confidence and effectiveness in your clinical work.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe the practice of brainspotting and motivational Interviewing
  • Describe the theoretical foundations of brainspotting and motivational interviewing
  • Assess client needs and determine appropriate healing interventions
  • Demonstrate skills related to brainspotting and motivational interviewing
  • Apply integrated skills to professional roles, populations and settings

  • Instructor-led presentation on current literature and research
  • Large group discussion of presentation content
  • Small group dialogue and discussion to apply concepts
  • Self-reflection and self-exploration
  • Demonstration of practice through real-time and video examples
  • In-class practice using real play and role play scenarios

Learner Level

  • Intermediate (Motivational Interviewing)
    • Learners should be familiar with MI principles and be able to apply the spirit, processes and core skills (e.g., responding to sustain and discord talk, and evoking change talk)
  • Introductory (Brainspotting)

Meet your instructor

Jesse Jonesberg

Jesse is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and certified Brainspotting therapist at brainspottingonline.org. He has over 15 years of experience working in community mental health settings supporting individuals experiencing the mental health impacts of oppression and marginalization. During his career as a community-focused social worker, Jesse has served as a community support specialist, intake specialist, supervisor, manager, academic advisor, professor, trainer, and even executive director of a small nonprofit. Jesse has been trained in, and continues to grow in, a variety of therapy approaches. He is an active member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), a Certified Brainspotting Therapist (BSP), a Certified Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (SCIP) therapist, and is a candidate to become a Brainspotting Consultant (CIT).
