Summary

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented method of communication designed to help practitioners strengthen an individual's motivation for and movement toward change. The evidence to support MI is immense, and ongoing training is likely to improve the skillfulness of practitioners. This 3-part series provides facilitated opportunities to keep MI skills alive and growing. Choose to attend any or all three (3) of the one-hour lunch and learn, dynamic, interactive practice sessions.

Overview

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Attendees will be able to utilize complex reflections in their practice vs. questions following the MITI guideline
    • Compare the impact of complex reflections to questions in practice
  2. Attendees will identify sustain talk and use the OARS to identify the change language
    • Demonstrate the use of the OARS to soften sustain language and cultivate change language
  3. Attendees will practice body language reflections when a client is not talking. Attendees will learn different ways to dance with Discord.
    • Use reflections with intentionality when discord is present

  • Have at least 6+ hours of introductory MI training
  • Use MI as part of your practice
  • Have an interest in improving your motivational interviewing practice
  • Want to learn from other practitioners and expert MINT facilitators
  • You want to spend time practicing MI skills and Strategies
