Summary

This course introduces foundational coaching skills and coaching as an approach for facilitating personal and professional development through conversation. Participants will learn basic coaching skills including maintaining presence, active listening, asking powerful questions, and developing a coaching mindset. Through live online sessions, personal reflection, and peer practice, learners will increase self-awareness and intentionality in conversations while building a personal toolbox of coaching skills. These techniques enable participants to build trusting, authentic connections and foster open, growth-focused conversations in both workplace and personal settings. This introductory course provides an accessible starting point for anyone interested in applying coaching skills to support learning and growth, inspire action and help others navigate challenges and achieve meaningful goals. 

How You Will Learn

This interactive course consists of 9 hours of live online sessions combined with 3 hours of independent coursework (readings, practice exercises, and a brief final reflection project).

Dan George

Dan George (BSIE, ACC) is an executive leadership coach, consultant, facilitator, and sole proprietor of Dan George Coaching and Development, with 35 years of experience in global technology (IBM) and professional services firms (Accenture, Deloitte) including over 20 years of experience as a senior executive leading global teams. Dan partners with senior executives, founders, entrepreneurs, and emerging leaders helping them to be differentiated leaders who value people, separate from safe group thinking, act with moral courage, and lead beyond boundaries. Dan helps his clients go further faster knowing more.

Samantha Dye

Samantha Dye, MA, MCC, ACTC, is the Program Developer and Director of Education for Professional Coaching at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

With over 20 years of experience in coaching, leadership development, and adult learning, she specializes in preparing aspiring coaches to build strong foundations in mindset, skill development, and effective practice.

She is passionate about helping learners translate theory into practice, deepen self-awareness, and develop coaching approaches that foster trust, growth, and meaningful results.
